Some may call me crazy but just yesterday I have started my seasonal, whole-food, gentle metabolic cleanse. It's 7 days long and yes you've done the math correctly; that puts me thru Christmas. You can pick your jaw up from the ground now....it's going to be okay!
You know what? I'm not even slightly shifted because I have declared this Christmas about everything but food and drinks. I also celebrated Thanksgiving pretty solidly and will be traveling for New Year's, so I'm not feeling deprived at all. However, this year has been extremely challenging and also incredible for me at the same time. Weird but I'm sure you can relate. I have been through enough to realize what's important and what is worth my time and energy. Guess what? Gorging myself in cookies, alcohol, and my Mom's twice baked potatoes is just not on my naughty list this year. I am tapping out.
Now I don't want you to think that I am not going to enjoy the time I spend with my family, because I am. I have just decided to challenge myself this week to TRULY make it more about all of the other "stuff" rather than focusing on what is placed on the dinner table. My year has been so focused on health, happiness, balance and purposely shifting my life to help others find the same. It has been more rewarding than I can possibly express and I am extremely excited to see what next year brings. With that being said, I will sail through the next 7 feeling whole, grounded and focused on absorbing all of the love and light that I feel from others. I'm not asking you to do the exact same, but whatever it takes to "bring you back" I would encourage you to find that peace. Choose to do whatever you want to celebrate, and encourage those around you to do the same. It might also set a good example for all the kids in the room who are wrestling over iPads and Xboxes.
Also, note that in approximately 365 more days Christmas will come back around again, and there will be tons of candies, pies, and cream cheesed mashed potatoes for you to dive into. Don't worry. I promise it'll all make a strong reappearance. It might be a long shot too- but I'm sure Aunt Molly can email you her recipes to be made at any time throughout the year. So there really is no "I'm never having this again" mentality. It's at your beckon call whenever you wish. See what I did there?
So, to wrap this thing up I will remind you that these next few weeks are crazy. People are traveling, celebrating and just trying to take the time to wind down. Find a few minutes to plan what you would like 2015 to bring for you:
No matter what you decide to do now and through the New Year remember this:
"Christmas is forever, not for just one day
for loving, sharing, giving, are not to put away
like bells and lights and tinsel, in some box upon a shelf
The good you do for others is the good you do yourself..."
Wishing you the best year ever!
